The first thing you see when you look at a new article is seen BEFORE you go to the article: your title and possibly several lines from within the article, no. The animated advertisement next to it? The picture? What's the first thing you see when you look at a fresh article, quick?

You're using the wrong words, and if your words don't get the idea across without gimmicks, keep it simple. Don't use eccentric punctuation or capitalization to make your title cool, " Similarly. This is INTERESTING! Look! "Hey, and are used like a laugh track in a bad sitcom to tell the readers, these are the fakest punctuation marks in English! Do not use an exclamation point at all. Do NOT use the exclamation point in your title. 5.

How about these titles: "How can I keep my boyfriend happy? Right, you wondered what that was about, with the explosion above? With or without a question mark, your article should be the same way: your title should ask a question. Most people lose interest if one thing is missing: a question that needs answering, when reading a story. A question mark is a good thing to use in a title. 6.

And you're in this business to make money - right, you won't sell a thing if you don't know who this person is? And write for them, always remember who your customer is, finally. 7.
